Avanda Cares Programs

Our Programs

At Avanda Cares, we provide trauma-informed, identity-affirming services designed to meet the complex and evolving needs of youth in care. Our programs are built on evidence-based practice, alignment with Ontario’s regulatory standards, and a clear understanding of the systemic gaps affecting youth aging out of the child welfare system.

We support youth ages 12–23 facing mental health challenges, developmental disabilities, behavioral complexities, and social vulnerabilities. Our goal is to create a stable, structured, and supportive environment where every young person can begin to heal, thrive, and successfully transition to independence.

Residential Group Home Program

We are preparing to launch a 6-bed residential group home in Mississauga that will provide 24/7 care for youth aged 12–21. While our licensing is currently in progress, our model reflects the standards set out under the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA) and Quality Standards Framework (QSF).

Key program elements:

N

High staff-to-resident ratio for personalized support

N

Trauma-informed routines and behavioral strategies

N

Therapeutic, identity-affirming living space

N

Multidisciplinary care team, including social workers and PSWs

Foster Care Program

Avanda Cares is also in the process of becoming a fully licensed foster care agency. We are developing a foster parent training and support model that emphasizes cultural safety, anti-oppressive practice, and trauma responsiveness—especially for youth from Black, Indigenous, racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+, and developmentally delayed communities.

Training will include:

N

Trauma-informed caregiving & de-escalation techniques

N

Cultural competence & anti-racism education

N

Mental health first aid and complex needs support

Transitional Life Skills & Vocational Support

We believe that youth need more than placement—they need preparation. Our transitional services extend to youth up to age 23, with individualized planning to support successful, long-term independence.

Core supports include:

N

Life skills (budgeting, cooking, self-advocacy)

N

Career coaching and employment readiness

N

Education support and access to post-secondary pathways

N

Navigation of key Ontario programs like:

  • Ready, Set, Go Program
  • Stay Home for School
  • Aftercare Benefits Initiative (ABI)

Youth collaborate with our Educational & Vocational Liaison to co-develop realistic goals and long-term plans.

Our Commitment

At Avanda Cares, we are more than a placement—we are a partner in transformation. Our programs are grounded in compassion, accountability, and measurable outcomes. We welcome partnerships with child welfare agencies, ministry stakeholders, and community organizations that share our vision for equitable and effective care.
